Survivor Yoga Workshop

Salley Schmid with Enrichment Training and Counseling Solutions and Kimberly Damm with Yoga8 have partnered up to provide a safe trauma-sensitive yoga practice for trauma survivors. Both women are very passionate about bringing peace and quality of life to those who are struggling due to trauma.

What is Survivor Yoga?

Survivor yoga is a trauma-sensitive yoga practice that can increase connection with the breath, enabling the brain to become less aroused, and relaxation to begin. Yoga can rebuild connections with both the insula and prefrontal cortex, strengthening the mind-body connection. The practice can help a student to regain their sense of control and ownership over their own body and their own experience.  Both of which were taken in trauma and are essential to reclaim in the healing journey.

This specific class is most appropriate for survivors of interpersonal trauma.  This includes but is not exclusive to trauma in the categories of psychological, physical, sexual, and religious.

The program includes:

  • 6 week program
  • Cost: $60

Who Can Attend?

Trauma survivors who are currently seeking healing through therapy. This will be a closed group (meaning we screen to provide safety for the survivor participants).  We require referrals from a physician, or therapist as part of the process to ensure participant safety.  Please ask your therapist or physician to give you a referral and email to

Class space is limited, please register soon to guarantee your place in this healing opportunity.

who we are

Ignite Strength + Purify Soul

At Yoga8 we are committed to the 8 limbs of yoga in both ideology and practice: {1} Yama (restraint), {2} Niyama (constraint), {3} Asana (postures and physical fitness) , {4} Pranayama (extending life through breathing exercises), {5} Pratyahara (sensory withdrawal or control), {6} Dharana (concentration), {7} Dhyana (meditation), and {8} Samadhi (being one with God). God is our root and foundation both in our lives and through our time here in the studio. Not only that, our classes are designed to realign your body, strengthen your physique, establish a mind-body connection and most importantly—laughter.

In our culture, we really don’t care about what brand of yoga pants you’re wearing, or how good your handstand is. We care about pushing your endurance to new limits and challenging you to become the best version of yourself. Yoga8 is more than just a toe touch or free-pass to the gym, we believe your time on the mat changes your time off the mat. Yoga isn’t about putting your body in funky positions, it’s about concentrating your mind, flexibility, working on personal strength (inner and outer) and feeling God's presence.

Although yoga can look easy on Instagram, it’s actually pretty intense (especially the amount of yoga-sweat), but fear not—it's a freaking blast. This is a judgement free environment where we find beauty in imperfection. We invite and welcome anyone interested in beginning, continuing, or enhancing their yoga regimen to practice with us.

Depending your personal goals and objectives the following guide could vary (are you seeking yoga to add to your current workout regime or to replace your workout regime). To achieve increased flexibility, reduce stress, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, detoxify internal organs, help recover from an injury or illness

3-4 times a week

To achieve increased fitness levels, strength, tone, flexibility, cardiovascular, reduce stress, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, detoxify, ultimate mental peace

*The "Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants" reminds practitioners that it takes a minimum of two to three sessions a week for eight weeks to measure increases in strength and flexibility from a yoga routine. Yoga8 suggests a minimum of three sessions a week, although yoga should be practice daily. A little yoga every day is better than one long yoga session.

{we welcome all levels of fitness}

{we welcome all levels of fitness}

Our yoga classes combine and connect various forms of yoga including, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power, Hatha and Yin. This yoga melting pot brings forth a new and refreshing twist on traditional yoga and in no time you will feel stronger, refreshed and your self value will increase.  Yoga8 utilizes modern principles of exercise science to burn max calories. Our classes focus on transforming you to be the very best you physically and mentally. We’re so excited for you to take a class with us—that the first one is on the house!

Beginners: levels 1 - 3   //   Intermediate students: levels 2 - 4   //    Advanced students: levels 3 - 5

Keep in mind every class has modifications for all three levels (for each pose), so any level can take any class. The 'recommended class level' is a starting point. Contact Kim at Yoga8 to structure your workout regiment. * Difficulty range from easiest to hardest: low, moderate, high, intense, rigorous.

Healing Yoga

low difficulty // 45 mins // 73-78 degrees

EVERYONE should do this class at least once a week. No matter if you are brand new to yoga or the fittest of the fittest. This class will help you heal the wear and tear you do on your physical and emotional body. All fitness levels are encouraged to participate as well as all students who are nursing injuries and have limited mobility.

Healing Yoga is a restorative style yoga focused on slow stretches and mindful breathing creating mental clarity. It is the centering of your breath and body. Aligning the physical and mental by practicing stillness or gentle movement for extended periods of time. This class is very low impact and requires very little stamina.

Restore and Renew

low difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Restore and Renew is pure bliss. Or we can even call it R&R because this class is 35 minutes of stretching and 25 minutes of yoga nidra. Our restore and renew is offered with restorative yoga or yin yoga. Restorative and yin are gentle and suitable for all levels – from total newbies, to experienced practitioners, to recovering athletes and seniors.

Restorative yoga (simili is a prop heavy type of yoga that requires you to hold each pose for 3-5 minutes to help restore the body and heal the body. Restorative yoga really helps a already injured body to heal or a fatigued stressed body to relax.

Yin yoga works deep into the connective tissues to activate change at that deepest level. Yin is a fantastic way to increase or maintain flexibility as it focuses on the areas around the joints. You’ll immediately notice more open hips, buttery muscles and a major mind detox. In the long run, it will lubricate joints, release the fascia of the body, increase flexibility and positively affect your yang practice.

Yoga Nidra is a powerful relaxation and meditation technique. This technique induces deep body-mind relaxation with the ultimate goal of increasing self-awareness. Lie down and get comfy!

Align and Flow

low to moderate difficulty // 75 mins // 73-78 degrees

This class is recommended for all levels. This is a vinyasa class focused on alignment. Each pose is broken down into 3 different levels and you get to decide what level you would like to practice at for that day.

If you are new to yoga, this is the perfect class to start understanding and feeling alignment. If you are a seasoned yogi, this class will take your practice to the next level because it will force you to work on deepening each pose. We recommend this class at least once a week for seasoned yogis and for new yogis come to as often as you can. You will leave feeling strong, clear and determined.

Hot Inspired

moderate difficulty // 60 and 90 mins // 93 - 101 degrees

Hot Inspired is a moderately intensity class performed in a 93-98 degree room.  The class consists of the same 26 asanas (poses) that will challenge you mentally while building physical strength, patience, flexibility and endurance.  All fitness levels are encouraged to come.  This is a 60 or 90 minute class.

Strength and Tone

moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 75-78 degrees

Strength and Tone Fusion is a challenging class fusing Isometrics and Pilates. You will burn calories, tone muscles, sweat and feel the BURN!

This class is a little different each time, but always a great workout! Isometrics is strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. This allows to tune in and focus on those smaller muscle groups. Pilates is similar to yoga but emphasizes your body’s core the abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thigh, butt, and so on. Pilates develops strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture. Come try something new and burn baby burn!

Sculpt and Tone

moderate to intense difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

This unique, heart-pumping fusion class is unlike any other yoga class you’ve ever experienced! This class combines a sweaty flow, with extra strength training by using light hand weights, and a focus on building a strong, healthy core. This fun workout keeps you on your toes giving you a complete mind-body workout experience.

Sculpt and Tone Basics

moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Sculpt and Tone Basics is the beginner level of sculpt and tone. Are you ready to move out of a healing or basics class and increase your fitness? This is the class for you. This class is designed for our newer yogis who are ready to increase the intensity level and for our veteran yogis who need need to bring it back to the basics. We recommend all yogis to revisit the basics no matter how long they have been practicing. It is always nice to get back to your roots.

Core 30

All levels // 40 mins // 73-78 degrees

Our core is a complex series of muscles extending far beyond our abs. A strong core stabilizes the entire body. This 40 minute class will start with 5 minutes of breathing, intention setting, and relaxation; followed by 30 mins of core work focused on training the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen and conclude with 5 minutes of savasana. All levels are welcomed.

Yoga Basics

low to moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Ideal for anyone new to yoga or at the beginning of their fitness journey. This beginner level practice will help you build strength, increase flexibility, and find focus. This class is moderately paced so you will learn the fundamental yoga asanas and principles that create a successful and effective yoga practice. Set to music, this class will invigorate your entire body.

Vinyasa Flow

moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 78-85 degrees

Vinyasa is all about continuous movement—and most importantly, matching that movement with breathing. Practicing Vinyasa regularly should eventually enable you to match each movement with a breath in—or out. The focus is on movement and grace, so for many this ends up feeling like dancing. We offer modifications in all classes so join us for a flow.

This is a heart pumping class that is focused on maximizing time. This class combines the internal benefits of yoga while getting a great workout designed to build your endurance, strength, flexibility and confidence as you flow through a series of asanas (poses). All fitness levels are encouraged to come. New yogis may enjoy taking a Yoga Basics class to become familiar with basic asanas (poses) and lingo. We will be moving fairly fast. Be prepared to sweat.

intense difficulty // 60-75mins // 85-90 degrees

Kick-Ur-Asana is a fast paced, make-you-sweat practice that will give yoga a whole other meaning. This class is designed to kick your butt. This class is a total body workout and is good for yoga students who are physically active and interested in the fitness benefits of yoga. Kick-Ur-Asana builds strength, flexibility, sculpts muscles, increases stamina and endurance. Bring lots of water and a towel, because you will need it.

Calling all athletes, weightlifters, Crossfitters, marathoners, triathletes, and anyone else who may think yoga is for sissies.  This class is for you!  You will be challenged physically and mentally and you will love it!

Aerial Yoga

moderate to intense difficulty // 75 mins // 73-78 degrees

Curl up in your own aerial hammock and explore your yoga from a new elevation, take flight. Aerial Yoga offers authentic yoga, with the support of a silk hammock to explore, refine, and advance traditional yoga positions, both in the air and the ground. This class is structured just like our traditional yoga classes starting with centering, warmup, posture focus, inversion and final resting pose/savasana. This unique form of yoga is a total body workout, increases strength, improves circulation, reduces stress (because it is so much fun), lengthens the spine, increase range of motion, improves memory, aids digestion and is a ton of fun.

*A workshop is a required prerequisite for these classes, learn how to get started with Aerial Yoga.

Fire and Soul

moderate to intense difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Are you ready to sweat and have a ton of fun?Fire and Soul is a dance fitness class that will fire up your heart and muscles while energizing the soul. This class is designed to focus on your aerobic fitness, muscle endurance, strength, power, flexibility, neuromuscular coordination, and body composition.

So you DON'T think you can dance and the word dance freaks you out? That is ok. This is a all levels class and you do what you can do. Dancing is not the focal point of this invigorating class; it is all about moving the body. Give it a try before you say you can't do it. Come shake what yo momma gave you!

Freaky Friday

All levels // 90 min // 73-78 degrees

Are ready to have some fun? All levels welcomed! It is Friday and it is time to let loose and not take life so seriously. This 90 minute class is designed to get the body warmed up and flowing for the first 45 minutes and the second 45 minutes will be filled with play time. Your play time! Whatever you would like to work on. The instructor will ask at the beginning of class what poses you would like to work on and warm you up to properly practice those poses. This can be any pose you want to practice; it can be a tree pose to the almighty handstand. The instructor will share their time with each student assisting, teaching and guiding each student to their dream pose. It is kind of like a private yoga session in a group setting. Come have fun with us.

Walk/Run Club

All levels

As yogis we believe in balance! Walking and/or running combined with yoga can help create a balanced exercise regimen.

Meet us on Saturdays at Hewitt Park. We meet as a group and then take off and do our own pace. Some walk, some jog and some run; it is great for accountability. Come join us!

"Since moving to Waco, I've been searching for a powerful yoga class that would leave me cleansed and energized. That's what I've found at Yoga8, and I'm so grateful. The instructors are caring and invested in their students. I'm still experimenting with the different classes, but I'm excited to embark on a journey with Yoga8."

–Caitlin Giddens 11/9/15

"Kim is the real deal!! I'm still not sure if I spent an hour at the spa, a grace filled church, or getting a ridiculous workout!! All the details from light and music changes to cool towels, and encouraging, joyful people made me want to stay for the next class!"

–Becca Herbert 11/5/15

"I was attracted to the "no judgement zone". At 59, and semi-broken down after surgeries, trauma and "life", my body was crying out to me to make it come alive again. I have felt enveloped with encouragement. After less than 10 classes, I am coming alive again. Neuropathy in my feet is becoming manageable and abating. Arthritis in my hands is periodically waning. Pain from two surgeries is becoming negligible and hip damage is stretching its way into flexibility. I have a goal. Not to reach a specific achievement, but to never stop reaching for the next best "feeling". Thank you Kimberley and Pamela for knowing my body will not go some places, but encouraging me to continue and go to the next level of comfort. This is a zone of love and encouragement. I am standing behind beautiful young humans who are twisted like a pretzel yet I feel like a rock star when I see their strength and use it to push myself to the next level."

–Debbie Colwick 8/18/15

"Yoga8 is just what the doctor ordered! I have an very busy schedule, so at the end of the day, Yoga8 is exactly what I need! Kim is amazing! she can work you out, make you laugh, and totally relax you all at the same time! This is the best medicine I could ever take!"

–Kim Ambercrombie 7/2/15

"Love Yoga8! It's yoga for anyone, and any fitness level. There's a class for you!"

–Angie Wood 6/12/15

"I cannot say enough good things about this studio and Kim, the instructor. First off, I feel so welcome when I come. Kim makes everyone feel as though she has known them for years. She lets you go at your own pace and doesn't force you to do anything or any pose that you don't want to. Secondly, I struggle with body issues and stress, but when I come to this class, it is like none of that matters...."

–Heather Crawford 6/8/15

"I adore Yoga8! It's a big, beautiful studio. The people who teach and attend are amazing. There are a variety of different classes. Whether a beginner or having practiced for years, this is the place for all. And, if you are looking for true hot yoga, you just found it!"

–Amy Evans 6/4/15

"Kim is the perfect combination of badass and relaxing.. What more do you need? If you're having a bad day- force yourself to get to the studio and you WILL leave in a great mood, feeling energized, and extra stretchy!!"

–Christy Noble 4/2/15

"I only tried yoga a year ago because I was invited by a few co-workers. I thought it would be fun to try something expectation ended there.  They say "You don't know what you don't know".  So true. I had no idea I needed yoga in my life. I had no idea it was a missing piece.

It is so cliche to say yoga has changed my life, but it truly has.  I started yoga at a time when I was feeling very unsure of myself, not physically, but emotionally.  I was in the thick of a hard personal struggle and yoga gave me confidence. In a million years I wouldn't have expected that. It became so much more than a physical workout. Out of nowhere I started feeling worthwhile.

And Kim?  Kim is the best teacher I could have.  Because she is the best kind of encourager... genuine."

–Mandi Buenger 1/17/15

"Hands down Yoga w Kim is addicting.  She engages each class with passion, instruction, challenging moves and humor and peace of mind all at the same time. It is incredible.  Whole heartedly believe each week I am a better me for attending. Love it, love it.  Thank you Kim."

—Patricia Meadows 1/15/15

"Before attending Yoga8 Hot Yoga class, I thought yoga was stretching only. I never thought that I would be building muscle and sweating like I just ran across the world... These ladies bring the heat! I'm talking about a ridiculously fun workout that really burns some calories. There are all levels of strength! You can be a burns-so-good-participant or a relax-and-stretch participant (or anything in between) all in the same class. It's a NO JUDGMENT ZONE, filled with beautiful souls wanting the best for you. I'm a huge believer not only in them but Yoga! Mind, Body, Soul. #bestplaceever #yogastrength #yogafitness #everyonelovesKim&Angie #IStillDontHaveMyFunkyPinchaGrrr"

—Stevie Johnston 10/26/14

"These ladies (Kim & Angie) go far above and beyond to try and accommodate everyone no matter their physical or mental condition! Thank you so much ladies for doing such a great job at offering a variety of classes for all interests and fitness levels, and always coming to work with a smile! It definitely makes a difference and makes you stand out! Oh yea, and thank you so much for beginning the name of the group with "yoga!" Makes it easy to remember for looking up! :D"
