What is Survivor Yoga? 

Survivor yoga is a trauma-sensitive yoga practice that can increase connection with the breath, enabling the brain to become less aroused, and relaxation to begin. Yoga can rebuild connections with both the insula and prefrontal cortex, strengthening the mind-body connection. The practice can help a student to regain their sense of control and ownership over their own body and their own experience.  Both of which were taken in trauma and are essential to reclaim in the healing journey.

This specific class is most appropriate for survivors of interpersonal trauma.  This includes but is not exclusive to trauma in the categories of psychological, physical, sexual, and religious.  

Survivor Yoga Workshop

Salley Schmid with Enrichment Training and Counseling Solutions and Kimberly Damm with Yoga8 have partnered up to provide a safe trauma-sensitive yoga practice for trauma survivors. Both women are very passionate about bringing peace and quality of life to those who are struggling due to trauma.

    August 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th
    Sept: 4th, 11th 

Who Can Attend?

Trauma survivors who are currently seeking healing through therapy. This will be a closed group (meaning we screen to provide safety for the survivor participants).  We require referrals from a physician, or therapist as part of the process to ensure participant safety.  Please ask your therapist or physician to give you a referral and email to kim@yogaeight.net

In our culture, we really don’t care about what brand of yoga pants you’re wearing, or how good your handstand is. We care about pushing your endurance to new limits and challenging you to become the best version of yourself. Yoga8 is more than just a toe touch or free-pass to the gym, we believe your time on the mat changes your time off the mat. Yoga isn’t about putting your body in funky positions, it’s about concentrating your mind, flexibility, working on personal strength (inner and outer) and feeling God's presence.

Although yoga can look easy on Instagram, it’s actually pretty intense (especially the amount of yoga-sweat), but fear not—it's a freaking blast. This is a judgement free environment where we find beauty in imperfection. We invite and welcome anyone interested in beginning, continuing, or enhancing their yoga regimen to practice with us.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ATTEND?

Depending your personal goals and objectives the following guide could vary (are you seeking yoga to add to your current workout regime or to replace your workout regime). This guide is a good starting point but we encourage a consultation with our instructors. If seeking weight loss from practicing yoga, a low fat diet is suggested for faster results.

1-2 times a week

To achieve increased flexibility, reduce stress, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, detoxify internal organs, help recover from an injury or illness 

3-4 times a week

To achieve increased fitness levels, strength, tone, flexibility, cardiovascular, reduce stress, reduce anxiety, lower blood pressure, detoxify, ultimate mental peace

*The "Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants" reminds practitioners that it takes a minimum of two to three sessions a week for eight weeks to measure increases in strength and flexibility from a yoga routine. Yoga8 suggests a minimum of three sessions a week, although yoga should be practice daily. A little yoga every day is better than one long yoga session.

Your first class at Yoga8 is free (no need to register), however it’s only valid one time.

All students must enroll and pay for classes through our website. Yogaeight.net/payment

Refunds/Cancellations

All packages activate on the first visit, not on the purchase date. We are very excited to have you a part of our studio, we do want to let you know that we do not offer extensions, refunds or transfers on classes or YoPaks (packages). Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding this.

Should you wish to cancel your unlimited auto draft membership at any time, you can do so by giving 30 days notice in writing. Please email kim@yogaeight.net 30 days prior to the next auto draft. 

Missed Classes

If you’ve registered for a class but you miss the class, you will not be penalized. The credit is not taken until the instructor verifies that you have attended class. Now that all the fine print is over, lets get to the fun stuff (come play with us)!

THE BENEFITS OF YOGA8

Our yoga classes combine and connect various forms of yoga including, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Power, Hatha and Yin. This yoga melting pot brings forth a new and refreshing twist on traditional yoga and in no time you will feel stronger, refreshed and your self value will increase.  Yoga8 utilizes modern principles of exercise science to burn max calories. Our classes focus on transforming you to be the very best you physically and mentally. We’re so excited for you to take a class with us—that the first one is on the house!

 
 

 
 

RECOMMENDED CLASS LEVELS

Beginners: levels 1 - 3   //   Intermediate students: levels 2 - 4   //    Advanced students: levels 3 - 5

Keep in mind every class has modifications for all three levels (for each pose), so any level can take any class. The 'recommended class level' is a starting point. Contact Kim at Yoga8 to structure your workout regiment. * Difficulty range from easiest to hardest: low, moderate, high, intense, rigorous.

 
 
 

Healing Yoga

low difficulty // 45 mins // 73-78 degrees

EVERYONE should do this class at least once a week. No matter if you are brand new to yoga or the fittest of the fittest. This class will help you heal the wear and tear you do on your physical and emotional body. All fitness levels are encouraged to participate as well as all students who are nursing injuries and have limited mobility.

Healing Yoga is a restorative style yoga focused on slow stretches and mindful breathing creating mental clarity. It is the centering of your breath and body. Aligning the physical and mental by practicing stillness or gentle movement for extended periods of time. This class is very low impact and requires very little stamina.

 

Align and Flow

low to moderate difficulty // 75 mins // 73-78 degrees

This class is recommended for all levels. This is a vinyasa class focused on alignment. Each pose is broken down into 3 different levels and you get to decide what level you would like to practice at for that day.

If you are new to yoga, this is the perfect class to start understanding and feeling alignment. If you are a seasoned yogi, this class will take your practice to the next level because it will force you to work on deepening each pose. We recommend this class at least once a week for seasoned yogis and for new yogis come to as often as you can. You will leave feeling strong, clear and determined.

Hot Inspired

moderate difficulty // 60 and 90 mins // 93 - 101 degrees

Hot Inspired is a moderately intensity class performed in a 93-98 degree room.  The class consists of the same 26 asanas (poses) that will challenge you mentally while building physical strength, patience, flexibility and endurance.  All fitness levels are encouraged to come.  This is a 60 or 90 minute class.

 

Strength and Tone Fusion 

moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 75-78 degrees

Strength and Tone Fusion is a challenging class fusing Isometrics and Pilates. You will burn calories, tone muscles, sweat and feel the BURN! 

This class is a little different each time, but always a great workout! Isometrics is strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. This allows to tune in and focus on those smaller muscle groups. Pilates is similar to yoga but emphasizes your body’s core the abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thigh, butt, and so on. Pilates develops strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture. Come try something new and burn baby burn!

 

Sculpt and Tone

moderate to intense difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

This unique, heart-pumping fusion class is unlike any other yoga class you’ve ever experienced! This class combines a sweaty flow, with extra strength training by using light hand weights, and a focus on building a strong, healthy core. This fun workout keeps you on your toes giving you a complete mind-body workout experience.

 

Sculpt and Tone Basics

moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Sculpt and Tone Basics is the beginner level of sculpt and tone. Are you ready to move out of a healing or basics class and increase your fitness? This is the class for you. This class is designed for our newer yogis who are ready to increase the intensity level and for our veteran yogis who need need to bring it back to the basics. We recommend all yogis to revisit the basics no matter how long they have been practicing. It is always nice to get back to your roots.

 

Core 30

All levels // 40 mins // 73-78 degrees

Our core is a complex series of muscles extending far beyond our abs. A strong core stabilizes the entire body. This 40 minute class will start with 5 minutes of breathing, intention setting, and relaxation; followed by 30 mins of core work focused on training the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen and conclude with 5 minutes of savasana. All levels are welcomed.

Yoga Basics

low to moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Ideal for anyone new to yoga or at the beginning of their fitness journey. This beginner level practice will help you build strength, increase flexibility, and find focus. This class is moderately paced so you will learn the fundamental yoga asanas and principles that create a successful and effective yoga practice. Set to music, this class will invigorate your entire body.

 

Vinyasa Flow

moderate difficulty // 60 mins // 78-85 degrees

Vinyasa is all about continuous movement—and most importantly, matching that movement with breathing. Practicing Vinyasa regularly should eventually enable you to match each movement with a breath in—or out. The focus is on movement and grace, so for many this ends up feeling like dancing. We offer modifications in all classes so join us for a flow.

This is a heart pumping class that is focused on maximizing time. This class combines the internal benefits of yoga while getting a great workout designed to build your endurance, strength, flexibility and confidence as you flow through a series of asanas (poses). All fitness levels are encouraged to come. New yogis may enjoy taking a Yoga Basics class to become familiar with basic asanas (poses) and lingo. We will be moving fairly fast. Be prepared to sweat. 

 

Kick-Ur-Asana

intense difficulty // 60-75mins // 85-90 degrees

Kick-Ur-Asana is a fast paced, make-you-sweat practice that will give yoga a whole other meaning. This class is designed to kick your butt. This class is a total body workout and is good for yoga students who are physically active and interested in the fitness benefits of yoga. Kick-Ur-Asana builds strength, flexibility, sculpts muscles, increases stamina and endurance. Bring lots of water and a towel, because you will need it. 

Calling all athletes, weightlifters, Crossfitters, marathoners, triathletes, and anyone else who may think yoga is for sissies.  This class is for you!  You will be challenged physically and mentally and you will love it!

 

Aerial Yoga

moderate to intense difficulty // 75 mins // 73-78 degrees

Curl up in your own aerial hammock and explore your yoga from a new elevation, take flight. Aerial Yoga offers authentic yoga, with the support of a silk hammock to explore, refine, and advance traditional yoga positions, both in the air and the ground. This class is structured just like our traditional yoga classes starting with centering, warmup, posture focus, inversion and final resting pose/savasana. This unique form of yoga is a total body workout, increases strength, improves circulation, reduces stress (because it is so much fun), lengthens the spine, increase range of motion, improves memory, aids digestion and is a ton of fun.

Fire and Soul

moderate to intense difficulty // 60 mins // 73-78 degrees

Are you ready to sweat and have a ton of fun?Fire and Soul is a dance fitness class that will fire up your heart and muscles while energizing the soul. This class is designed to focus on your aerobic fitness, muscle endurance, strength, power, flexibility, neuromuscular coordination, and body composition. 

So you DON'T think you can dance and the word dance freaks you out? That is ok. This is a all levels class and you do what you can do. Dancing is not the focal point of this invigorating class; it is all about moving the body. Give it a try before you say you can't do it. Come shake what yo momma gave you! 

 

HIIT

All levels // 45-60 mins // 73-78 degrees

High-intensity interval training (HIIT), is a form of interval training and a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periods. HIIT is the concept where one performs a short burst of high-intensity (or max-intensity) exercise followed by a brief low-intensity activity, repeatedly, until too exhausted to continue. This class will be the most challenging and most rewarding 45-60 minutes of your day. All levels are encouraged to come.
